Traditional Boxing Classes

Boxing, is a high intensity and versatile workout that challenges all aspects of the body, mind and spirit.

No wonder it’s so popular!

For those looking for a bigger challenge, while raising money for good causes, Storm Gym is one of the official training partners of Ultra White Collar Boxing Events (UWBC). UWBC is the UK’s most prestigious White Collar Boxing promotions and to date their events have raised over £27 Million for Cancer Research UK , ask in the gym for details.

It may appear to be the most simplistic form of combat sport but it takes dedication to master the sweet science.

Boxing requires a rounded overall strategy for both attacking and defending. Attacking is pure punches. There’s the powerful, straight cross punch, a quick jab punch, the semi-circular hook and the rising uppercut.

These punches require precision, focus and a fearless tactical approach. Defending combines the protective high and low guards, as well as slipping, swaying, bobbing, weaving, parrying, blocking and above all good footwork.

Combining attack, defense and evasion techniques.

Speed and accuracy combined with timing and pace makes boxing one of sharpest and most difficult martial arts to master.

The strength and stamina required in boxing is second to none. Boxers train everyday including running, skipping, shadow boxing, bag work, pad work, sparring…

MMA – Mixed Martial Arts Classes

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), often recognized as cage fighting, stands as the fastest-growing combat sport globally. This dynamic discipline encompasses a comprehensive array of techniques, including powerful punches, kicks, knees, elbows, strategic takedowns, skillful grappling, wrestling, and intricate submissions. MMA truly offers a complete and thrilling combat experience, making it a cornerstone of the ever-evolving world of martial arts.

MMA – Mixed Martial Arts Classes (or cage fighting) is the single biggest growing form of combat sport in the world. Designed to be the one sport combining all forms of martial arts to create the ultimate combat sport.

The bouts take place inside a caged octagon, not to emulate a Mad Max movie but for the competitor’s safety and to keep the action flowing as the fights transition from standing to the ground and back again.

Typically a bout consists of three 5 minute rounds where the winner can be decided by points or if one competitor succeeds in knocking out or submitting their opponent forcing them to signal with a double tap, known as a “Tap out”

By training MMA you will learn techniques from many combat systems such as Boxing, Muay Thai, Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo & Catch wrestling to name just a few. The combination of these elements create the sensational & highly intricate sport you see on TV today.

Develop world class fitness! MMA athletes are renowned in sports science for their levels of strength & endurance. Everyone who trains MMA develops improved fitness & strength especially those fast twitch muscles used for explosive takedowns. You will often hear us say “You can’t BLAST, if you can’t LAST!”

Build confidence, mental resilience & problem solving skills! MMA practitioners are masters of thinking their way out of submissions & awkward positions. This comes from drilling techniques and being placed into submission holds in training where they need to resist tapping out while they execute escape strategies. This builds your confidence to handle and think your way out of high pressure, physically uncomfortable positions. Skills which many students tell us benefit them in other aspects of their lives.

Kickboxing / Muay Thai Classes

Otherwise known as Thai Boxing or the “art of eight limbs.”

Some of the many unique striking styles in Muay Thai include elbow strikes, knee strikes and the clinch.

A fast and furious, high energy combat sport using punches, kicks and knees to strike. Ideal for an all over body workout.

Founded in Thailand, Muay Thai or Thai boxing is also called “the art of eight limbs”. It doesn’t just focus on punches or kicks but combines them with elbows and knees to create an infinite range of combinations that can be used to engage your opponent. Today, the blocks and strikes of Muay Thai are adopted for use in K1 kickboxing and/or MMA as both sports have adopted Muay Thai as a staple of training.

As with the Thai culture Muay Thai is steeped in spititualisim and a heritage streching back thousands of years, come and summon your inner warrior with us

Born on ancient battlefields Muay Thai is one of the oldest martial arts, it includes all aspects of striking – punching, kicking, elbows & knees. Its the ultimate ring sport with a long standing tradition.

Muay Thai practitioners are relentlessly and tirelessly drilled in the art of Muay Thai through gruelling circuits & workouts making them one of the most conditioned athletes in stand up combat.

Muay Thai is a very specifically designed martial art & combat system that offers many ways of implementing the 8 limbs – fists, elbows, knees & legs. All in all its a beautiful martial art to view & participate in.

Jiu-Jitsu is an ancient martial art. The word “Jiu-Jitsu” is a derivative of the Japanese words: “Ju” and “Jutsu.” meaning “gentle” and “art.”

Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is the mordern form of this martial art and combat sport. Its based on ground fighting and submission holds developed by modern day pioneers such as Roger Gracie and used to dominate the ground game in MMA.

BJJ focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one’s opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds. BJJ forms the back bone of MMA ground work which is why its a must for anyone aspiring to compete in MMA.

Inclusive – It’s a sport for all body shapes and sizes. The technical depths of BJJ are vast and ever evolving, and there are as many styles as there are body types.

Confidence & Respect – Regular BJJ will give me you an appreciation for your body’s abilities and the confidence that comes from dedicated practice & the respect from knowing there is always something more to learn.

ALL Body work out – BJJ is a great way to build your body and tone up your muscles. As you will put all your muscles to work during training sessions.

Improve quality of life – BJJ influences your body and mind positively. It teaches you to be humble, patient and how to deal with pressure. Many students see an improvement in the quality of their day-to-day life.

Joining BJJ is like joining a family! This is because you end up becoming incredibly close with your training partners. a BJJ workout is like an hour of “combative cuddling”. Having others in our close personal space creates strong bonds over time. Also, putting our physical safety in our partner’s hands, knowing they will quickly release their hold when we “tap out” creates a deep sense of trust. All of which contribute to a sense of vibrant health and increasing socil bonds!

Develop world class fitness! BJJ combines phases of Low, Moderate and High intensity action developing high levels of over all conditioning & strength. The scrambles build incredible endurance, and the physical resistance amounts to human weightlifting, as you deal with your partner’s body weight as well as your own all adding to create incredible functional fitness. Add in the problem solving which stimulates your intellect. This keeps your mind engaged, bringing in elements of fun and play. It also helps guard against conditions, such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Build confidence, mental resilience & problem solving skills! Having someone in top position and trying to choke you might not sound pleasant. However, when you become accustomed to dealing with such situations, other more trivial things, seem to matter less. You get less stressed out. Not only that but BJJ is 100% real. So, when you learn to escape that position, you know you did. Your partner did not let you out. This real-time application of your acquired skill creates unshakable confidence.
